Quambatook Group School is situated in a small, Southern Mallee rural community on the Avoca River; an area based on sheep and wheat farming. The town and school have links with the neighbouring communities of Swan Hill (60 kilometres), Boort (42 kilometres) and Kerang (40 kilometres). The original school in River Street was built in 1909 and in 1948 the school at Quambatook was amalgamated with surrounding small schools to become a Group School on its present site. The spacious brick building was completed in 1973. There are no other primary schools in the area with alternatives being in larger centres accessed by long bus trips. This school has a current population of 20 students.
