In the Kindergarten, education is centred upon meeting the needs of the child’s developing will. A caring environment which abounds with many possibilities for sensory and will activities is provided for children at this level. A feature of Primary education in Steiner schools such as Orana is that the class teacher moves with the children from Class 1 to 7 and therefore has an in depth understanding of the class as individuals and as a group. Clay modelling Class teachers engage classes in movement, speech, drawing, painting, modelling, story-telling, writing and singing as well as lesson content, in order to cultivate the feeling life of the child. It is recognised that during the Primary phase there is a burgeoning imaginative thinking ability which flourishes and is exercised in an environment filled with creative endeavour. It is a discipline in a Steiner School to meet the child's developmental phases with appropriate tasks and content. The educational intention is to foster an active, articulate and rounded thinking capacity. Students participate in a full range of subjects including humanities, languages, arts, mathematics, sciences, technical studies, life skills and sports. Within each subject the student is meeting a different discipline: thinking is being exercised in diverse ways. In addition, Orana offers a range of electives to Year 9 and 10 students to allow individuals scope to explore new areas and emerging interests. The school has significant facilities in art, music, drama, woodwork, science and photography.
