The actuarial program is designed for students who wish to enter the actuarial profession. As such, it provides students with a solid grounding in actuarial techniques, and, through the Centre's accreditation with the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (IAAust), students have the opportunity to obtain exemption from Parts I and II of the IAAust examination requirements to qualify as an actuary.
The Centre has established an international reputation for research since its inception in 1992. During this period, staff and visitors have contributed over 140 papers to the Centre's Research Paper Series, many of which have been published in top journals such as the Scandinavian Actuarial Journal, the ASTIN Bulletin and Insurance: Mathematics & Economics. Research topics have ranged from the practical to the theoretical, covering areas such as aggregate claims distributions, financial economics, superannuation, ruin theory and claims reserving in general insurance.
