The Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB) undertakes globally competitive research to decipher information contained in the genes and proteins of humans and animals.
Since its establishment in 2000, the IMB has earned a reputation as one of the Asia Pacific region’s leading research institutes.
With its outstanding facilities, the IMB is developing a critical mass of eminent scientists pursuing research excellence and commercial development on the global stage.
The IMB is Australia’s only systems biology institute that brings together the disciplines of developmental, structural and cellular biology; genetics; genomics and chemistry with a strong underpinning of bioinformatics and computational biology. It also incorporates the Australian Research Council’s Special Research Centre for Functional and Applied Genomics and the Australian Genome Research Facility.
Through its research, valuable medical treatments, high value diagnostic products and new technology platforms will be developed, greatly impacting on the health and quality of life of humans.
The Institute’s valuable research outcomes are protected and commercialised by the University of Queensland-owned technology transfer company, IMBcom Pty Ltd. This company works in tandem with the IMB to achieve an effective translation of this research into high value applied and commercial outcomes.
The IMB is an innovative joint research and development initiative of
