Punchbowl Public School is a large school which serves the densely populated community of Punchbowl which is located in the inner west of Sydney. 98% of students come from families whose first language is not English. The school's motto of "Learning Together" highlights the philosophy that all members of the school community support each other to provide a stimulating, relevant and secure learning environment for the students. The teaching and learning programs are based upon the achievement of specific outcomes. The school promotes the importance of establishing and maintaining high expectations to achieve these outcomes. In addition to mainstream K-6 programs, the school has a Pre-School, an Early Intervention Unit which supports Pre-School children with learning difficulties, Community Language programs, English as a Second Language (ESL) programs and Reading Recovery programs. The school is supported by the Priority Schools' Funding Program and the Literacy Numeracy National Partnership.
