The Burdekin Christian College is a small independent school situated in the township of Ayr. Ayr is located approximately 80 kilometres south of Townsville in North Queensland. Ayr has a population of approximately 8 600 and the Burdekin District has a population of around 18 100.
Ayr is the centre of the Burdekin District. The Burdekin District is known for its plentiful supply of underground water (liquid gold). Sugar cane is the main primary industry but many other crops are increasingly being grown.
Burdekin Christian College commenced in 1982. It is situated at the corner of Melbourne and Chippendale Streets. Because of the availability of underground water its grounds are always green. Our College is a member of Independent Schools Qld and Christian Schools Australia Queensland and has both a school and an early learning child care centre.
The Burdekin Christian College has 108 pupils in five classes. We have a Prep, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3/4, Year 5 and a Year 6/7 class. Besides employing teachers we employ a learning support teacher, a teacher librarian and a number of teaching assistants.
