Canungra State School is located in the South Coast Region and draws its students from the Tamborine Valley, Coomera/Pine Creek Valley, Canungra Valley/Township and the Canungra Army Base. The School Community is composed of some farming, local businesses and Defence Force personnel. There is a close working relationship with families, the business communities and the personnel at the Army Base.
A full time Prep school is in the school grounds. The Prep comes under the direct control of the Principal. The school staff comprises of a Principal, a Deputy Principal, the full-time services of a Teacher Librarian, part-time Music Teacher, Physical Education Teacher, LOTE Teacher, Learning Support Teacher, Curriculum Co-ordinator, Advisory Visiting Teachers and a Guidance Officer. Curriculum is planned, delivered, and assessed in line with Education Queensland�s 8 Key Learning Areas (KLAs); English, Maths, Science, SOSE, Technology, LOTE, The Arts and Health & Physical Education. Students� progress and effort is reported on to parents twice/year at the end of each Semester. Some aspects of the KLAs are taught in Integrated Units organized under the Personal, the Changing, the Natural, the Amazing and the Democratic Worlds. The Language other than English (LOTE) taught at our school is Japanese. Computers are used throughout the school both in classrooms and in our 2 computer laboratories. Swimming lessons are conducted each year at the local pool at Moriarty Park.
The school uses a variety of teaching approaches including composite classes, team teaching and single classrooms. Our school also has the services of a Defence Support Transition Aide. Our current enrolment is approximately 400 students from Prep to Year 7.
