The Bruce Highway passes through the town. By road, Home Hill is approximately ninety-five (95) kilometres, or one (1) hour's drive, south of Townsville and a short ten (10) minute drive across the Burdekin River from its "twin town" of Ayr.
Funds for the operation of the school are granted through Government Core Funds and various Commonwealth and State Grants. The P&C Association provides funding towards the annual school budget to subsidize class excursions and travel associated with sports.
The classrooms of Home Hill State School consist mainly of upgraded traditional single rooms and three double teaching spaces. All teaching spaces are air-conditioned and have the latest ICT technology. The buildings are complemented by many facilities including a tuckshop, a pool, a covered play area, adventure playground equipment and new tennis and basketball courts.
We also have our own broadcast room where we run a our 4HHFM Radio Program during lunch breaks.
The school library is new and well equipped. It contains a computer bank, reading ampitheatre, science kitchen, media room with green screen plus our many books and resources all contained in a spacious, modern environment. Grounds surrounding the buildings, including a main oval of a high standard, are maintained in excellent condition.
