Candlenut Steiner School is located in Kuranda, a small village in the rainforest, approximately 25 minutes north of Cairns, a major tourist hub in Tropical North Queensland. The 42 acre property is a beautiful and tranquil place where children have access to wide open spaces cocooned by rainforest. There are multiple rainforest walking tracks that meander through the property, passing through a unique wildlife corridor, abundant with local animal and plant life, and leading to seasonal creeks. The school is a five minute walk from the beautiful Barron River. There are two school buses that run from Cairns and Smithfield and one bus that runs to and from Kuranda Village, Speewah & Koah. These buses are largely funded by the school and the Government, keeping the cost to parents minimal.
Up until 2010, the school offered Kindergarten and Preschool through to Class Seven. In November 2010, the school received accreditation to also offer Classes Eight to Ten. Class Eight was offered in 2011, Class Nine is now offered in 2012 and Class Ten will be offered in 2013.
