A non-denominational secondary school.
Tamborine Mountain College was established by Mr. Robert Nicholls and was opened in January 1995 with a Year 8 Class. It began in leased premises at the Tamborine Mountain Showgrounds. 1996 saw the College move to larger leased premises at the Convention Centre. In 1997 the College moved to its own site at 80 Beacon Road. For Junior Secondary Years 8, 9 and 10, the College has a core curriculum with an academic bias. The core subjects are studied by all, and are formally assessed. These subjects are: English, Maths, History, Geography, and Science. In addition, the students undertake studies and activities in the areas of: Art, Computing, (MMA) Media, Music and Performing Arts, as well as Physical Education and Pastoral Care. The College is a member of the Border Schools Sporting Association and is involved in interschool competition in Swimming, Cross Country and Track and Field carnivals. Our emphasis in sport is each individual competing to his or her best level. Other recreational activities are available. In addition, many students each year take part in Public Speaking competitions. Teams from the College have won Tournament of Mind competitions.
