South George Town Primary School is situated on the southern perimeter of George Town in the northern region of Tasmania. Our school was established in 1967. Students work in eleven class groupings with class sizes ranging from 17 to 29. We aim to support each child in achieving their potential and to do this within a safe, caring and supportive environment. We provide a vigorous and comprehensive teaching, learning and assessment program based upon the Tasmanian Curriculum. Pride is taken in the student outcomes achieved. Our staff work proactively with parents and the broader community to build an increasingly effective school. In 2010 our School Improvement Plan identifies Literacy, History & Society and Community Connectedness as our Development priorities while Science, ICT and Positive Behaviour Support are Maintenance priorities. We provide a comprehensive literacy intervention program across all grades Prep-Gr 6 to maximise students' literacy development. We offer a range of innovative supplementary programs; these include outdoor projects and arts pursuits.
