Schools receive an annual resource package for the purpose of providing educational programs for students throughout that year. Schools may also receive other funding from the Department as well as receiving income from other sources. Generally, like the resource package, these funds should be used in the year that they are received. However, in some circumstances, schools may need to carry funds over from one year to the next. A reasonable carry over is 25% of a school's annual resourcing package. From January 1 2010, Glenorchy Primary School has an increase to its annual resourcing package to facilitate the merger with the now closed Brent Street Primary School. Schools also receive additional funding to help reduce early years class sizes. The average class size at Glenorchy Primary School for groups containing Prep and Year 1 students is 20.
