From small beginnings in 1913, Summerdale Primary School and the associated Launceston suburbs have recently experienced significant growth. In recent years school numbers have declined from above 700 to just above 600. The children come from a range of home environments, which accurately reflects the greater Launceston profile. The majority of children are settled, responsible, community minded and caring individuals. Our motto of ‘Learners for Life’ is expressed in the vision—to nurture and encourage all aspects of human development and inspire children to be life-long learners. The school improvement plan lists three key goals: i. To improve student literacy outcomes K–6 by building staff capacity in pedagogy; ii. To create flexible programming to meet student needs, developing a culture of inclusive practice; and iii. To promote Positive Behaviour Support, celebrating appropriate social behaviour, and teaching acceptable and/or replacing negative behaviours. The school is managed efficiently by a School Association, with an active and financial Parents and Friends body.
