Mount Clear Primary School is located in the Ballarat urban area, six kilometres south of the city centre. In close proximity to the school are a range of educational facilities including kindergartens and childcare centres, other primary and secondary schools, the University of Ballarat as well as the Technology Park. Spacious grounds in a natural bush environment surround the classrooms, administration and gymnasium buildings, featuring ovals, basketball and netball courts, adventure playgrounds and shade structures, outdoor classroom areas and attractive plantings of native flora. An Out of School Hours Care program is run on-site by the YMCA, Ballarat.
The school has recently completed a total refurbishment of its Prep – Grade 2 classrooms based on open plan learning areas incorporating purpose built designs and up-to-date technology. An external maintenance upgrade has also been completed and a new Grades 5/6 building housing four learning areas and a technology centre has been completed and is in use.
