Established in the early 1960's, Thornlie Primary School is designed with classrooms built around a quadrangle. Surrounded by many tall eucalypts, it has extensive grounds for students to enjoy. Thornlie Primary School recently celebrated its 50th anniverary of providing inclusive and strategic educational programs for the community. There is a focus of community within the school, with strong partnerships developed between parents, staff and students. Cultural awareness is also a major thrust with an enrolment of 387 students, including 25 Indigenous students and representatives from about 40 different ethnic groups. In the past few years the school population has seen a big increase in the numbers of humanitarian and political refugees join our community.
