St Kieran's School, Mount Isa caters for boys and girls from Prep to Year 7 and was officially opened on 17th March 1985 as a result of the rationalization of the town's four Catholic Primary schools. Although situated in the north east of Mount Isa, the school attracts families seeking Catholic education from throughout the city and from outlying areas.
Continuing a tradition in the west, St Kieran's was initially staffed and administered by the Sisters of St Joseph. Since 1988 lay principals have carried on the work of Sr Jenny Scari, the last Religious principal.
St Kieran's School is a small, close-knit community with a tradition of outstanding performance in academic, sporting and cultural arenas.
