Alpurrurulam School is 550km east of Tennant Creek and 20km from the Queensland border, in the community of Alpurrurulam; the closest major centre is Mount Isa in Queensland. The community is set within an approximately 1000 hectare pastoral excision of Lake Nash Station; a working cattle station. The population of the community is approximately 750 and are predominantly Alywarr people. The community can be accessed by road; during the wet season the access road can be cut-off for extended periods of time. Alpurrurulam can also be accessed via air through chartered air services only and has an all weather airstrip.
Alpurrurulam School is part of the Sandover Group School and provides education to students from early years to middle years. The school implements various literacy and numeracy programs including First Steps, THRASS, Count Me In Too, Maths 300, Nelson Maths and QuickSmart® Numeracy. The school also implements personal development programs such as You Can Do It and Habits of Mind and also implements the Tribes TLC© Program.
