Located in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne, Sunshine Special Developmental School has 140 students with a moderate to severe intellectual disability. The school has a commitment to integration with primary aged students attending a Baseroom (a classroom with specialist teachers and resources) within one of 3 primary schools; Glengala Primary School, Sunshine Heights Primary School and Ardeer Primary School.
Secondary aged students are located at the main campus at Ivory Court West Sunshine which is also the administrative hub of the school. These students enter the middle years and advance to senior aged groups within pathways that reflect their individual needs, level of independence, and life skill capabilities. A broad range of specialist programs include art, library, information technology, drama and movement, bike education, and work skills. Staff work within multi-disciplinary teams, the extensive support network which includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists ensure that programs are tailored to meet the individualised and specialised needs to the student population.
